In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to create an iridescent texture in Cinema 4D (this tutorial also works with Cinema 4D Lite). I’ll start by building up a scene to apply materials to. I’ll then go over the Spectral Shader that applies prismatic color reflexes, or pearl like effects to your specular channel. We’ll cover all the options inside the Spectral Shader as well as how lights and camera view can affect how the effect is applied to your object. Finally I’ll give you some hints as to how you can create a soapy bubble type of effect using the Spectral Shader. Have fun and experiment!
If you have any questions be sure to post it in the comments section and if you create any cool iridescent textures, be sure to share it with me! Thanks for watching!

Hey Ej thanks for doing this tutorial! After practicing and playing with specular and reflectance I created this: https://www.instagram.com/p/BKw3OephANZ/?taken-by=eve_agram
Thank you for this tutorial. It’s awesome.
Something I’ve wondered for the longest time: WHY AREN’T ALL THESE TYPES OF MATERIALS JUST BUILT INTO C4D? Or why can’t they just be downloaded for free somewhere? It’s so time consuming to have to build colors and materials. Why can’t they just be there already? I know this isn’t EyeDesyn’s fault. But gosh darnit… Having to spend 30 minutes to learn how to make ONE kind of material… exhausting!
Hi EJ,
There is a crystal know as Tiger’s Eye. If at all possible, how would you go about re-creating the same optic effects that it gives off in Cinema 4D. I’m using R18.
Hi EJ,
This video seems to be down, can you re-publish it?
