In this tutorial we’re going to go beyond Cinema 4D’s Cel Shader & create some stylized, almost handcrafted looks using another shader in Sketch & Toon called the Art Shader. The Art Shader is really easy to use and allows you to apply interesting texture to your models. First I’ll break down a workflow to create textures in Photoshop for use with the Art Shader, then go over how you can use the Colorizer to apply different shades of color to your Art Shader. Then, I’ll show you how to create more organic looking Sketch & Toon outlines using different options in the Sketch Materials. Finally, I’ll go over how you can apply what 2D animators call a “boiling” type of animated distortion to your models.
If you have any questions, post them in the comments! Be sure to post any examples of you using this technique in your projects as well! Thanks for watching!

It’s a nice look
very good, but, how can i make this on blender? thanks!
Bang on time as ever sir, just when I need it, lovely stuff.
By the way did you figure out what happened to the transparency in PS at about 7:07? I think you did what I always do: pressed the 2 key to zoom in (à la C4D), which sets the opacity to 20% in PS. Maybe? Anyways, great tut, thanks bro!
I guarantee that’s it! Sometimes I go keyboard crazy and randomly type something into an app that totally messes something up! :)
No idea, I don’t use Blender!
Hi EJ, love this tutorial ! But I have a small problem, my stroke thickness does not stay the same in the render as in the editor? Do you know what is causing this?
Hi Ej, thanks for all your great tutorials!
I’m having some problems with my outline stroke and maybe you can help me with.
for some reason the outline flickr a lot in the render when there is animation on the object or an rotation of the camera.
Is there a way to “bake” the lines so the wont flicker? or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again!
Nice tutorial bro. Really love the U/I color theme!
I have C4d r17 and in my content browser there isn’t the Art Shader that you found. Am I missing something? Did you buy additional content? Not sure why Im not finding that material
The Art Shader content is included in Visualize and Studio versions of C4D that include the Sketch and Toon module. If you don’t have those versions, you don’t have Sketch and Toon and therefore don’t have the Art Shader content.
Yeah it’s weird. I have R17 studio and that art shader is not there. Bummer.
If you don’t have Studio or Visualize versions, you won’t have Sketch & Toon and therefore won’t have Art Shader due to it being included in the Sketch & Toon Module
Very nice technique…
Is there any way to get the chick model? Please… :-)
Great tutorial as usual!! Would love that chick model too
I can’t locate the tutorial on this page. Can I have access to the link?
